The National Institute of Research in Tribal Health (NIRTH) is one of the 30 health research institutes working under the aegis of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It is located in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.
About NIRTH
NIRTH was established in 1985 with the aim of conducting research on health issues of the tribal populations of the country. The institute has a 44-acre campus and is surrounded by thickly-forested tribal dominated areas.
NIRTH has six divisions:
- Communicable Diseases
- Non-Communicable Diseases
- Genetics
- Social Sciences and Ethnomedicine
- Immunology
- Virology and Zoonotic Diseases
The institute also has a number of centers and units, including:
- Center for Advanced Research in Tribal Health
- Center for Training and Capacity Building
- National Reference Laboratory for Tribal Health

NIRTH has been conducting research on a wide range of health issues affecting tribal populations, including:
